As part of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s agenda as Chair of the Midwestern Governors Association (MGA), the MGA undertook a yearlong effort to examine the energy transition’s impact on communities that have powered the region’s growth for decades. With input from stakeholders across the Midwest, a final publication released by the MGA highlights recommendations and tactics that can be used to aid these communities.
As a key sponsor and supporter of the agenda, WGU is also proud to provide a scholarship opportunity to help support Midwesterners whose employment has been impacted by the energy transition. WGU is dedicated to helping people all-across the country gain the skills and knowledge needed to be successful.
In the wake of this initiative, WGU is pledging up to $500,000 toward the "Empowering Midwestern Communities Scholarship" created as a response and solution for communities where individuals will be affected by the closures. This scholarship is designed for individuals who have been impacted by the closure of a power plant, either directly, or indirectly, and want a degree to help in their career transition.
